Three Legged Walk - August 2001
We did the walk on Saturday 25th August 2001
People who participated were me (17), my sister Kerri-Ann (14), our friend Mel (15) and our cousin Danielle (14).
We started around 9:50am at the top of Catherington Lane and arrived at Asda in Waterlooville around 11:30am
We did the walk on one of the hottest days of the year, this was not the plan, but the heat made us go a little crazy.
We made 3 collection buckets and a sash for each of us.
I made a teddy bear masscott which we raffled off later on once we were at Asda
Asda staff managed to put together £25 for us too
Asda gave us food and drink when we got there
The Meon Valley News did an article on the walk
We raised £230, yey!

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
What did you do in the Summer Holidays? On a blistering hot Saturday morning, four teenage girls started (and finished!) a sponsored 3-legged walk from the top of Catherington Lane, Horndean to Asda at Waterlooville. Thank you to all who sponsored and donated, especially Asda for putting up and information board, giving the girls much needed refreshments, and providing a donation pot, and presenting the girls with a £25 check. Thanks also to Jill Kemp and Co.
If you have Trouble TV or hired Boyband - the movie, then you will have experienced '2gether', the brilliant spoof of the boyband genre. You will have noticed the youngest member, 'Q.T.' McKnight, played by Michael Cuccione. But were you aware that Michael passed away in January 2001, just eight days after his sixteenth birthday?
Not only was Michael an actor, dancer and singer, but inspirational youngster who had survived cancer twice in his lifetime, and set up his own foundation to help find a cure for cancer, provide information and support for vivtims and their famillies and generally make people more aware.
The girls loved 2gether and soon their cousin and friend were also fans. All were shocked by Michael's death and life history. Michael's mother, Gloria Cuccione is originally from Blackpool and continues to run the foundation in Canada.
Michael's book 'There Are Survivors' is a combination of both his and his grandmother's journals whilst he was fighting cancer. Sale of the book raises money for the foundation and needs to be read to believe!
Gloria called us from Canada. She is a lovely person to talk to. She said that Michael would appreciate the hard work of the girls, but would probably be laughing too - what a sight! Sha added that Michael was always full of fun, and a fighter to the end. He wouldn't feel sorry for himself, but wanted to help the other children. His dream was to find a cure for cancer, so that no one else would suffer. 'One person alone can do so much, but together we can make a difference!'
So the girls tried to do just that: - Nikki Barwis (17), her sister Kerri-Ann (14), their cousin Danielle Simms (14) and friend Melinda Hickman (15) have raised £200! Well done girls.
